| Real Life Update |
[Mar. 17th, 2009|05:32 pm] |
Disclaimer: This is a half rant/half informative post about my job.
Well, as many of you that actually read this know, I'm currently deployed to Bagram AB, Afghanistan. It's been a trip. It's amazing knowing that only 3 years ago I was sitting in my room playing video games with no real direction. Now, I'm helping fight a war and seeing things I'd never thought I'd see. Getting random mortar attacks and rocket attacks are always fun. The work is pretty demanding, which is nice to have some times. A great experience that I can't say I'd be willing to do every year. But alas, I'm in the military and this is what I signed up for.
For those that don't know, I'm in the Air Force. I'm an F-15 Crew Chief. Which basically means I'm overall responsible for an F-15E. The E is the model of F-15, which E happens to be the newest and most advanced F-15 at the moment. They're designed mores specifically for the job of bombing missions. I'm in charge of every mechanical aspect of the jet, the starting system, and hydraulics. We repair, troubleshoot, replace faulty parts, and do general servicing. So pretty much I'm a glorified mechanic. I enjoy the job itself, but can't stand all the extra bullshit that comes with it. I'll just leave it at that, and let you use your imagination in deciding what I mean.
Anywho! Currently in Bagram and working my ass off. We work 6 days a week, 12-14 hours a day to ensure these jets are all mission ready at any moment. We support our ground troops and friends in the field. Something a lot of my co-workers don't understand is that we've got the life compared to them. We owe it to those out there getting shot at to work efficiently and not complain. But... as with everything, people will complain about anything. So, I'm complaining about people complaining. I usually just shut up and do my job; and I'd like to think I do it damn well. And being only an E-3, there isn't much I can do anyways, so I just trudge along and earn my keep the only way I know how: work and help others. In an atmosphere full of complainers that want to do nothing but make you as depressed as they are, there's only one way to counter it: worry about yourself and let everything else slide off. Guess that was my rant of this, I'll be a little more positive after that paragraph.
As of lately I've been in the spotlight at my job. The jet I'm solely responsible for has been the "pride of the fleet" lately. As I said, we're responsible for maintaining our jets, but you can go above and beyond and make your jet look pretty too. Of course a pretty jet doesn't mean it will fly well of course, but it sure makes you look good. And me, whose main priority is myself, is all about making myself look good. So, my jet has been flying extremely well with very few issues and is one of the best looking jets on the line! And what comes with this is people start to notice and you get to meet some pretty interesting people. We get Distinguished Visitors (DVs) occasionally and our Operations team decides what jets to put them in. They usually pick the best looking and best performing jets to ensure the DVs leave with a good impression.
In the Air Force, most of the top officers are also pilots. So, they usually want to fly the best jet in the fleet. So in the last month I've met the General of the base, a Vice Admiral and commander of Special Operations, and numerous other Generals and Colonels that I have no business talking to. Just yesterday I had to help teach this Vice Admiral how to operate the F-15. Must be nice, being able to say "I want to fly an F-15, so you will teach me how." So, he did say that and so we did teach him and today he flew as a backseater in my jet. Yea, I'm bragging a bit, but I'm allowed to, right?
So, as I said, this deployment has been a great experience and one I will never regret. Definitely looking forward to getting back to England though. I'll leave you all with a few pictures from the flightline.
 My jet taking off.
My jet was used as the location for my supervisor's re-enlistment ceremony.
Decent picture of the scenery from the top of a jet.
Different view from the same spot.
My Jet just kinda chilling with missiles and bombs loaded.
Yes, this is still from Bagram. It snowed way too much in January.
An A-10 taking off in the distance as my jet and another jet get ready to taxi onto the runway.
If you have any questions about my job or Afghanistan, feel free to ask. |

| That's right. |

Well, I said I wasn't going to make an update until I got Ares Cuirass, so you know what that means! Didn't get it quite as I expected to, but as of 3 hours ago I am the proud owner of an Ares's Cuirass. Got Deimo's Cuirass maybe 4 months ago. Since then my old group just died. People got bored, or whatever. So, 2 days after moving back to Asura I go with my new group to LBC. I would have had to pass if one dropped, but guess what! Two dropped, so they let me have it. Strange luck, but I'm extremely grateful. Big thanks to my old group on Valefor, and also to my new group on Asura.
As stated above, I moved back to Asura and rejoined Eminence. Been having a blast in the 4 days I've been back. Very happy with my decision. Anyways... to the pictures! Most of these are pretty old, but pics nonetheless!
First time we did 10 floors in Nyzul.

Shit like a Mink.

Kaba knows why everyone quit!

Drunk Mistagrimm is Drunk.

Right...

Posted on his BC on BG that he was immature and annoying. Nice name, you've grown up.

Not as bad as Runic, but meh.

Deedo was in the biggest botting LS on Valefor.

I'll do a PLD update some other time. I'm getting tired. |
